My name is Dr. Katie Kozak, and I am a US-trained counselor living in Kaiserslautern, Germany. Before relocating overseas, I worked as an assistant professor of counseling at Tennessee Technological University, where I prepared future helpers to practice in school and community settings. Prior to that, my counseling work was primarily concentrated in K-12 schools, working with children and adolescents across a range of social/emotional, career, and academic issues.
Now, I am deeply gratified to offer counseling services to the Kaiserslautern Military Community. In a world that can be fast-moving, demanding, and unpredictable, I strive to provide a space of respite: a space where you can safely unpack the volumes within you, explore your connection to others and your environment, and arrive at meaningful understandings of yourself, your relationships, and your experiences.
My counseling style is informed by cognitive behavioral and solution-focused approaches, but I also enjoy integrating creative modalities into sessions. For some clients, colored pencils, clay, or scissors and glue can uniquely facilitate expression and enrich the counseling process.
These approaches give me the expertise to meaningfully guide our work together, but equally important is the expertise you bring. You are the world’s foremost expert on you. Throughout the counseling experience, we will combine our respective areas of expertise to help you thrive – whatever your vision of “thriving” is.
